Pav Bhaji (Bread & Indian Veg Curry)

Pav bhaji or Pao bhaji is one of the most popular fast food items that you can find in most cities.Pav bhaji consists of a potato based curry and "pav" which is bread. Its history takes us to Mumbai.Yes, we should thank Mumbaikars on bringing out this relishing dish to us.

Though Pav bhaji was introduced to the world by Mumbaikars and to me by my mom ;) Not exactly. The first timeI had Pav bhaji was on a trip to Delhi. But that was quite some while back. Don't remember much!! So I can remember onlyMoms homemade pav bhaji. Moms Pav bhaji was not the Mumbaiah one but it was yummy too.Well, I wanted to always try homemade authentic Pav Bhaji. Now that I rule this kitchen, I gave it a try.Who else could I go to for such authentic recipe other than Tarla Dalal.I was an ardent fan of her cookery show on Star Plus and still follow her website, www.tarladalal.com.

Voilaaa!! The Pav Bhaji came out great. Not simply great it was fantabulous. Really guys. I loved itand so did my personal food taster (Arun). :D And its not tough to prepare at all. its just a lil' time consuming.Do try it out everyone!! You will love it.. :) Do let me know if it can be made tastier :D





Ingredients

For the pav
  • Pavs: 8
  • Butter: 4 T



For the bhaji
  • Potatoes, boiled and mashed: 1 1/2 C
  • Cauliflower, finely chopped: 1 C
  • Green peas: 1/2 C
  • Carrots, chopped: 1/2 C
  • Onion, chopped: 1 C
  • Capsicum, finely chopped: 1/2 C
  • Tomatoes, chopped: 2 1/2 C
  • Turmeric powder : 1/2 t
  • Chilli powder: 1/2 t
  • Pav bhaji masala: 1 1/2 T
  • Chilli-garlic paste – 3 dry red chillies & 5 garlic cloves
  • Salt: 1/2 t
  • Butter: 4 T



Before serving
  • Onion, chopped: 1
  • Lemon wedges:  4
  • Cilantro (dhania): 1 T

The Kitchen Affaire turns One :)

The afternoon breeze and the sound of rustling leaves is so soothing. So here I sit, enjoying this change of weather, to pen memories of last year. Gosh!! I cant believe that - The Kitchen Affaire; is turning "One". :) Time does fly. Last year has been very eventful. An year that changed my title from: a carefree mommy's gal to an "adorable" ("A" would not agree with this!! hi hi) wife; an IT engineer to a house-wife;  and a huge move from my home in Kerala (India) to a new home in Houston (U.S.A).
