Italian Breadsticks



Olive Garden is one of our regular eatouts and "Fettucini Alfredo" is an all time favorite. Even before we start the main course, me and my hubby eagerly await their yummy Italian breadsticks which is served with olive oil.

It lets out an aroma which is truly mouthwatering. :) I cannot resist trying this recipe.

Thank you very much to dearest Soma of eCurry. With your perfect recipe I could bake my favorite Italian breadsticks at home. Woww. :)  Gosh!! Let me hurry up & pen the recipe for you guys and then grab those warm breadsticks here! :D

Ingredients

  • Active dry yeast- 1.5 t
  • All-purpose flour- 2 C
  • Unsalted butter- 2 T
  • Olive oil - 1 t
  • Warm water
  • Sugar- 1 T
  • Salt- 1 t
  • Garlic powder- 2 t
  • Dried herbs- 1 t

For Coating
  • Butter or Olive oil- 2 T
  • Salt
  • Garlic powder- 1/2 t
  • Dried herbs- 1/2 t



Method
  • Take 1/4 C warm water in a bowl and mix half the sugar, yeast and set aside until foamy(about 5 minutes).
  • Mix flour, butter, olive oil, garlic powder, powdered herbs, salt, rest of the sugar untill the flour mixture gets crumbly.
  • Add yeast to the flour mix and blend everything well.
  • Slowly, add warm water  and knead a soft but not very sticky dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until very smooth and soft.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions.
  • Knead each piece gently and shape it into a breadstick.
  • Place the knead breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet (Make sure that they do not stick to each other).
  • Cover the sheet with a cloth and keep it aside for an hour (Breadsticks will rise to double their size).
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Brush the breadsticks with the topping and sprinkle little coarse salt.
  • Again cover it with a cloth, keep aside and let it rise for another half an hour.
  • Next, bake the breadsticks until they turn a golden color (Upto 15-20  minutes).
  • Serve the breadsticks warm.



Note: You can serve it along with a yummy dip too. :)

Hummus

How can I even dream of having a Pita bread without this yummy creamy dip --> Hummus of course. :) Like many other cuisines, Mediterranean was also introduced to me by my hubby dear. He loves Hummus and now, me too :D And thats how I ended trying to make it at home. Ingredients Yogurt - 1/4 C Garbanzo Beans / Chick Peas - 2 C Tahini (Sesame Seed Paste) - 1/2 C Lemon Juice - 1/2 C Garlic cloves - 3 Salt - 1/2 t Citric acid - 1/4 t Water - 2 T Mint Leaves - a few For garnishing Parsley - 2 T Cayenne Pepper or Paprika - 1 t Olive Oil - 1/4 C Method   In a food processor, add the garbonzo beans, garlic, lemon juice and salt, blend until smooth.  Next add yogurt, tahini, water, citric acid and mint leaves. Spread the hummus in a plate and garnish with parsley, cayenne pepper and olive oil. Serve with pita bread.

Vegetable Manchurian

Last day, as usual, I was hoping to cook something new. And thanks to the huge blogosphere, I was sure I would find something new. But the problem was, I did not know what to search! :D Finally, I hopped onto Aipi ’s ( US Masala ) blog. Not only is Aipi a great cook, but she is also an awesome photographer.  And that’s how I fell for her “Vegetable Manchurian”.
